Penawan:  a Paradise of Waterfalls in the North Heart of Borneo

Penawan Waterfalls Eco Park, opened in 2015, is the first initiative by the Penawan people to provide alternative livelihood via eco-tourism. This park encompass the two main rivers of Penawan, Tuped (Lun Bawang: steep) and Telubid (Lun Bawang: slope). The steeper Tuped has ten tiers of impressive waterfalls, and gaining popularity among the locals in north-west Borneo. Meanwhile the gentler, but longer Telubid, was the last area being logged in 2010, and potentially has more than ten waterfalls.

Since early 2019, ecologist M.S. Khoo started to survey Telubid and discovered a great diversity of wildlife. With his advice, we work towards gazetting the whole catchment as a nature reserve, and learn how to restore logged forest with the help of sustainable business like eco-tourism and agroforestry.

We welcome you to stay with us, challenge yourself with our many waterfalls, and experience our food and hospitality. Experience the best of nature adventure in the Paradise of Waterfalls through activities like waterfall hiking, river trekking, camping, etc. as well as through our survey and conservation work.

Also talk to us about designing an expedition from Kota Kinabalu, and/or expedition into interior Lawas, the Heart of Borneo. If you enjoy 4WD off-road drive, you will enjoy the journey to Ba’kelalan, the gateway to Mount Murut – highest peak of Sarawak.
