Please help my community to protect wildlife and rainforest in Penawan Preserve, a Paradise of Waterfalls in Lower Lawas, Sarawak, Malaysia Borneo.
Raising Fund for Rain Forest – Protect Wildlife in the Paradise of Waterfalls
We are the Lun Bawang clan of the descendants of Dawat Anur, living in Kampung Pengalih and Kampung Pa’Puti of Lower Lawas, Sarawak. Our main mission is to protect our ancestral forest, a ca. 1000-acre water catchment of Penawan rivers (in lower Batang Lawas/ Kenayih) as a Native Customary Reserve (and hopefully an official Nature Reserve) for our future generations. For more information please see the introduction of Penawan.
Our plan of using ecotourism to our Waterfalls Eco Park to fund and sustain our conservation initiatives has been severely dampened by the pandemic of COVID-19. We now hope that with your generous support, we can still continue our initiatives to better protect the forest and wildlife of Penawan:
- establish a plant nursery for growing seedlings/ wildlings of local primary forest trees (for restoration) and useful plants (for permaculture/ agroforestry)
- restoration: planting seedlings of local primary forest trees (with emphasis on the rare/ endangered species) in degraded forest, damaged by illegal-logging and recent clearance for agriculture
- permaculture: enrich-planting useful plant species in the farmlands/ orchards surrounding Penawan catchment so that the increased biodiversity can better buffer the forest and provide more food to its wildlife
- creating jobs: hire and train local youngsters as rangers to patrol the forest and river reserves, as well as to take care of the trails, restoration sites, and the enriched farms/ orchards – this will prevent them from straying into unhealthy activities and hunting for wildlife
You may send your cash contribution via PayPal, or if you are in Malaysia, feel free to transfer to our bank account (before we successfully-registered our non-profit entity). Supporters in Singapore may transfer to our advisor, Mr. Khoo M.S. to help save on PayPal fees. Drop us a note below and we will share relevant details 🙂
We appreciate any amount, and will be happy to give discounts or free visits for our patrons to Penawan (ex Lawas town/ airport) when travel is allowed again.
Thank you very much, and terima kasih!
Yours Sincerely,
Joseph Tai
