Shah Redza
I am currently the General Manager of the Perak State Parks Corporation, mandated to head and manage the Protected Areas in the State of Perak, Malaysia. My jobs include, but not limited to, the conservation and enforcement of the Royal Belum State Park, the islands of Pulau Sembilan State Park, the Kinta Nature Park, and also the management of Kinta Valley National Geopark.
Over the last two decades I have been involved in various NGO work especially in areas of nature conservation and environmental protection. Community-based conservation is a key component, and I have dedicated much of my time to the development of indigenous and marginalised communities, in specific on their sustainability and social equity issues. Today I am still involved in several conservation and community-based NGOs, such as the Turtle Conservation Society Malaysia (as a committee member).
Economist turned Conservationist in Malaysia
My journey in conservation started in 1997, when I left the corporate sector to join WWF Malaysia in order to learn and contribute directly to nature conservation. After WWF, I served as the Executive Director of the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS), the oldest and largest member-based nature NGO in the country. During those stints, I also served on various national and regional technical committee on nature and environmental protection.
Prior to joining the Perak State Parks I was the Special Project Director in Malaysia with Earth And Sea Observation System (EASOS), a UK Space Agency project partner in utilizing satellite technology in monitoring, protecting and disaster forecasting of our natural environment.
On this portal I hope to showcase some extraordinary programs I am developing under Perak State Parks, and enhanced by collaboration with other like-minded souls here. Together we hope to connect more people with the natural wonders of Malaysia, the place I proudly call home.
