Explore a coastal ecosystem in Desaru Johor with an ecologist

I am Vincen, an ecologist working mainly in Johor and Sabah, the Ecological Advisor of Arubay Eco Resort, and the Scientific Advisor of Rewild Desaru by JungleWalla Desaru. Join me in exploring the coastal ecosystems in Desaru Johor and help document biodiversity.

Main morning program in a nutshell: We shall meet in Johor Bahru by 06:00, or Desaru by 07:00, and travel to Arubay in our own car(s). We will focus on birds in the first hour or two after sunrise, and look at plants, insects, etc. afterwards. The coastal forest of Arubay is about 800m long so be prepared to walk in hot sun or drizzle. In the event of strong wind or heavy rain, we may shift our exploration to nearby forests or museums. We shall end the day by noon with lunch (BYO for picnic, or own expenses in Bandar Penawar).

This morning exploration starts from RM1000 for 3 adults or 2 adults + 2 kids, inclusive of my companion & mini 4WD. Additional adult/child at RM200 & RM100, respectively (own transport).

Arrange now (till further notice) for 50% off for Malaysian citizens.

Birds connect our world: learn about birds, their ecology, and why the migratory birds are called the connectors of our world.
The little things that run the world: learn about insects, their ecology, and why they are so important in keeping our world alive.
Forest is For Us: learn about coastal plants, their ecology, and their importance in human culture (especially the canoe plants carried by Austronesian voyagers).
If you’re a botanist, entomologist, ornithologist, or seasoned birder/ photographer: BYO binoculars/ scope/ camera to tag along and help contribute your expertise.

Optional programs:

If you don’t mind to camp wild (without toilet-shower), we may stay the night in the coastal forest, survey the forest for nocturnal life and wake up to sunrise over South China Sea.
Some nocturnal creatures we might see during night time (clockwise from top): savanna nightjar, sleeping white-breasted kingfisher, common palm civet. If you’re lucky you might even see a slow loris.
Bonus of waking up to sunrise by the sea.
Aquaculture tour of YHL Aquatics’ shrimp/ oyster farm, sister program of Arubay Eco Resort.
(Only during suitable low tide) Intertidal exploration of rocky shores in Tanjung Buluh, Tanjung Balau, or Desaru Coast.
Plant a tree with JungleWalla’s Rewild Desaru, or a forest with Arubay Eco Resort.
Join us for a fun and immersive experience with Mother Nature in Desaru Johor.
