MH Khoo

I was born and bred in Johor Bahru, the capital of Johor state, and the 3rd larg… You will actually find my biography very similar to MS Khoo. I’m not plagiarizing but we do share the same blood and gene although we do not look alike. This is a good place to thank my elder brother, Min Sheng, who is also the founder of this portal. He sparked my passion for the underwater world which led me to who I am today: a marine scientist in an environmental consulting firm based in Singapore.

People used to call me Turtle’s Grandpa (龟公  just for fun, NOT the real pimp..) because I studied quite a fair bit about sea turtle, on my way to become a marine scientist. Photo: Wong M.

After graduating from the university in 2008, I worked as a conservation biologist in The Reef Dive Resort, Mataking Island where I pioneered the Sea Turtle Conservation and Hatchery Project, and Turtle Hatchery Management Training, as well as managed the Reef Ball Project, and fund-raising for various conservation projects. Working together with WWF Semporna and Reef Check also taught me how to introduce marine conservation to my fellow divers the light-hearted and fun way.

Currently I’m actively diving in Singapore, on my job, and occasionally guiding as a Hantu Blogger.. Yes, no joke it’s Singapore. You will probably be thinking is it even possible to dive in Singapore? and I will tell you that diving in Singapore never fail to surprise me and it will quench your thirst of muck diving and macro photography. My passion for the ocean has also driven me to become a SCUBA diving instructor as I really enjoy bringing the beauty of the underwater world to people around me. Thus you will find me periodically organizing dive courses and expeditions to Singapore, Dayang & Aur, Tioman, Anilao, Cebu and other parts of Philippines, Bintan, Bali, Lombok, Raja Ampat, and other parts of Indonesia. Join my underwater journey to be connected with Mother Nature, deeper!
