Eco-Adventure in the Land of Waterfalls for Conservation
Penawan Waterfalls Eco Park, opened in 2015, is the first initiative by the Penawan people to provide alternative livelihood via eco-tourism. This park encompass the two main rivers of Penawan, Tuped (Lun Bawang: steep) and Telubid (Lun Bawang: slope). The steeper Tuped has ten tiers of impressive waterfalls, and gaining popularity among the locals in north-west Borneo. Meanwhile the gentler, but longer Telubid, was the last area being logged in 2010. Since early 2019, ecologist M.S. Khoo started to survey Telubid and discovered a great diversity of wildlife. With his advice, we are working towards gazetting the whole catchment as a reserve, and optimizing sustainable business like waterfalls eco-adventure for conservation.
You are most welcome to help with our conservation effort by participating in our survey and restoration programs. Help us plant primary forest species to rehabilitate forest damaged by illegal logging, and fruit trees in our reserve buffer for animals and human. Also help survey for unique flora and fauna in support of our establishment of community forest reserve.
Join our monthly survey, usually the last weekend of every month, to support us in preserving our natural heritage. Also talk to us about designing an expedition from Kota Kinabalu, and/or expedition into interior Lawas, the Heart of Borneo. If you enjoy 4WD off-road drive, you will enjoy the journey to Ba’kelalan, the gateway to Mount Murut – highest peak of Sarawak.
